Anne and Donald Graubart
Although they had different upbringings and backgrounds, Anne and Don Graubart are palpably connected when it comes to family, philanthropy and doing the right thing.
Anne, a native of a small town in West Virginia was raised by grandparents in a home that valued education. She graduated from West Virginia University and moved to Houston in 1964 and made it her home. She worked as a successful employment recruiter for many years.
Don, the son of Eastern European immigrants was raised in Mt Vernon, New York. He studied business at the University of Oklahoma and moved to Houston to work in the executive training program of a large retail store. He made a switch to the securities industry specializing in services to trustees of endowment funds and retirement plans and evaluation of the performance of professional money managers.
One goal that Anne and Don have in common is "to make the world a better place" through their time, talents and financial help. Anne has served on the boards of the Houston Ballet Foundation, Leadership Houston, The Alley Theatre and Communities in Schools Houston, a highly successful drop-out prevention program. Don has been active with Goodwill Industries, Emery Weiner School, Jewish Federation of Greater Houston. He is a long-time proponent of philanthropic giving and planning.
Thirty years ago, Anne and Don made the Vail Valley a second home and a big part of their lives. Their support in the valley has been to YouthPower365, Bravo, the Shaw Cancer Center, and B'nail Vail.
Don has said: "Philanthropy has to be passed down from one generation to the the next. If you don't make an example of giving, how will your children and grandchildren respond when it is their turn?".
Please join Anne and Don in supporting the Vail Valley Foundation and our many programs that support the community! To join the Anne and Don Graubert Challenge and help create a lasting legacy for our community, contact Sarah Johnson at sjohnson@vvf.org.
